I'...Emily, I think your script looks very good! I'm not the best judge, maybe, because I'm just learning it myself, but it looks very good to me.

I figured since it's too hard to learn Darija without the help of a native speaker (I only have access to teachers of Iraqi dialect) I might as well learn the script now. I'll be starting my service in September, and I haven't really had enough time to learn the whole alphabet, but at least I get a little exposure to it. I really enjoy it because I love calligraphy, and so I love doing the letters.

When I get to Morocco I will work on Darija, but meanwhile I'm just learning how to associate the sounds with the letters, and how to recognize the letters in each of the different positions. It's fun! Like doing decoder puzzles. Wish I had more time for it.

I've really been enjoying reading all the Moroccan volunteers' Blogs but I'm behind in my reading. Thanks for sharing your experience with us!katiehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13368857149419892426noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4258932651106904487.post-14813429090470474232009-07-11T05:39:58.825-07:002009-07-11T05:39:58.825-07:00Barb,

I just saw Lisa last weekend for the 4th of July holiday and she was saying that you've mentioned to her that we needed to update our blog. My Mom's the same way, she always reads the other volunteer's blogs too. I don't know if script is similar to short hand at all, as I've never learned it.

Mom,
Yes, I remember well the hours of studying at your kitchen counter...spelling, vocab, math, history, etc. Don't get me wrong, I still have my frustrated moments in learning Darija, script, crochet, etc. I'm glad you enjoyed the blog, I'll try to write another soon.

EmilyEmily and Jonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01831459435103764118noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4258932651106904487.post-43607759541309599012009-07-05T16:15:33.393-07:002009-07-05T16:15:33.393-07:00It was with great pleasure that I read this post, ...It was with great pleasure that I read this post, about learning script. How well I recall your learning adventures, and as I recall, not All enjoyable, but I think you always had a desire to learn.
I envy your ability to take on a new language and be able to communicate in a new place. Bravo for you, my daughter in whom I am pleased.
MomNancyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00489393757841910268noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4258932651106904487.post-46264344300761743452009-07-03T06:22:07.887-07:002009-07-03T06:22:07.887-07:00Emily: I enjoyed reading your blog about the tria...Emily: I enjoyed reading your blog about the trials of learning to read script. You're probably wondering who this is--I'm Lisa's mom. I like to read all of her PC friend's blogs. It gives me a different perspective of what she may be experiencing too. I wonder if learning script would be similar to learning shorthand. I use to teach and use shorthand back in the "old" days. Hope your studies continue to be enjoyable and that your friendship with Melisa grows. Best to you and Jon. Barb P.barbiehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07286393241298772795noreply@blogger.com
